Jimmy Fallon’s Surprising Response to Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

Jimmy Kimmel was the biggest headline in late-night last week, and not for a sketch or a viral moment. After his monologue on September 15 lit a political firestorm, his show got pulled. Then, on September 18, Jimmy Fallon finally spoke up.

On that night’s episode of “The Tonight Show”, Fallon addressed the drama head-on, calling it the “big story” and wondering out loud what was going on.

Kimmel’s suspension sparked a ton of reactions, but Fallon’s stood out for how measured it was. While others blasted the move, Fallon played it safe. He told his audience that Kimmel was a “decent, funny, and loving guy” and added, “I hope he comes back.”

The Reason Behind Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

Fallon didn’t ignore the heat. He mentioned the pressure from the FCC, even saying, “WTF” on-air, though he kept things vague. He admitted, “I don’t know what’s going on, and no one does.” Instead of taking a stand, he slid into satire with a goofy segment praising Trump’s trip to the UK. It was his way of winking at the situation without fully jumping in.

Jimmy / IG / Before his signature satire on Trump, Jimmy Fallon said that Kimmel is “a nice and funny guy” and hoped that “he’ll come back soon!”

On his September 15 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, Kimmel slammed conservative voices for turning activist Charlie Kirk’s death into a political talking point. He also mocked Trump’s awkward response when asked to comment. The FCC didn’t love that, and neither did some big TV stations.

Fallon Stayed Cautious While Others Got Loud

Other late-night hosts came out swinging. Stephen Colbert used the word “censorship” loud and clear. Jon Stewart did a savage bit pretending to read from a “government-approved” teleprompter. Seth Meyers called the move dangerous and wrong. Compared to them, Fallon looked like he was walking on eggshells.

Fallon is known for avoiding political drama, and this situation proved it again. Maybe he didn’t want to risk his own show. Maybe he genuinely didn’t know all the details yet. Either way, his approach was noticeably different, and it sparked its own conversation online.

Kimmel Is Back!

The good news? It didn’t last long. On September 22, Disney said “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would return the next day. The network said they had “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel and decided the break was due to comments that were “ill-timed and thus insensitive.” That statement didn’t exactly clear things up, but it ended the suspension.

Jimmy / IG / CBS has announced that Jimmy Kimmel will be returning on Tuesday, September 23, 2025!

Kimmel hasn’t said much about the whole thing yet, but fans are waiting. The debate over what happened hasn’t gone away. People are still asking whether free speech was at risk, and if media companies are bowing to political pressure. Kimmel’s return will likely bring those questions back to the front page.

Fallon, for his part, may not go deeper into the mess. His September 18 remarks might be all we get from him. But even that short segment showed where he stands, or at least where he is willing to stand publicly. He supports Kimmel as a friend, but when it comes to politics, Fallon tends to play it safe.

This situation put Jimmy Kimmel in the middle of a much bigger fight over what late-night TV is allowed to say. It also revealed how differently each host handles these moments. Fallon stayed in his lane. Others didn’t. And for now, that says a lot.
